‘Content is King’ is a common adage that we all come across very often these days especially when we talk of businesses. We all know that content is important but why is it king and why is it most important? What could be the probable reason for the creation of this popular phrase? In this blog, I share my point of view of why content is prime.
Content is knowledge. Content is information. By content, we are referring to web content that could be in various forms. It could be content in websites, emails, newsletters, social media, search engine optimization, or anything and everything that goes into the web. Before we had internet access at our finger tips, it was common to refer to newspapers, magazines, books, etc. to refer to for some information. But with the internet infiltrating every aspect of our lives, we have all the information before our eyes at the click of a mouse. This is why precisely, content has been anointed king!
Every information that you wish to share or convey has to be in the form of content. This is the knowledge that people are exposed to. It is through this information that you educate your target audiences. This is how people will find you or your brand online. It is the age of information and you have to provide this by creating high quality content. Also you can choose to educate and train your target segment with the help of appropriate content. Whatever you put as content has to be of value to your customers. People do not share advertisements directly but they will share information that is of some value to them. By value here I mean anything and everything that is worthy of sharing. You can spread all kinds of messages that you want to through content.
So here we have the answer that content is king simply because that is how people hope to find you online and get all the necessary information. As rightly said by Michael R. Hunter, “In today’s market place, knowledge itself is not power, but sharing of knowledge is.”
